  1. 첫눈이 내린다

    November 20, 2008 by admin

seoul has seen its first snow today.

i like to see snow but i don’t like living with snow. snow’s good if i’m indoors with a good book, a cup of hot tea (or hot chocolate) and wrapped in a thick blanket.

the good thing about snow is that it means that the weather has kind of warmed up a little, by a few degrees or so; the temperature’s no longer in the negative like the past few days, which means that my transformation into a block of ice will be completed later rather than sooner. >,< haven’t been sleeping well cos it’s damn cold at night and my sleep area is near the window. have resorted to sleeping with a scarf round my neck, wearing my woolen socks and 2 layers of clothing (covered with a blanket of course). kekeke.

it’s cold in my office too, and while i don’t have to wear my big coat, i have to keep my scarf on or my neck will freeze.

this is my 3rd winter here, and i am so wondering how i got through the past 2 winters. all i remember was looking forward to spring, wondering when the temperatures will rise again.

it’s amazing how much one can endure when he has something to look forward to. the power of hope. :)

it snowed all day on monday

walking on snow that has been stepped on by hundreds before and has thus melted into sheets of ice requires some very good balancing skills, lots of concentration and healthy thigh muscles, but i like the sound of snow going crush-crush-crush as i trudge through it. it’s very oddly satisfying.

kinda like popping bubble wraps. ㅎㅎ

  3. another trip to ilsan

    February 7, 2008 by admin

i was doing my lunar new year spring-cleaning yesterday (yes yes, i can be domesticated when i feel like it, which is, unfortunately, not very often) when i received a call from TS asking if i would like to meet up in ilsan. well, why not? i do like ilsan a lot, and it’s just an hour away by subway. hehe.

alighted at hwajeong station, where he picked me up at exit 3 before driving off to the suburbs, which is about 15 minutes away. it was quite an eye-opener actually, i didn’t know there were farms and herb gardens in that area!

he wanted to bring me to this place where they trained horses for racing, but unfortunately it was closed, so we went to some king’s memorial grave site which was just beside it.

patches of snow on the ground – a rare sight in seoul.

the king’s tomb is that mound of earth over there, behind the traditional structure.

“take a picture of me!” he says.

    ok.

“now take another one! a more serious one.”

after that he wanted to buy a basketball, so we went to a hypermart nearby. i picked up a ball and passed it to him. “can you spin this?” i asked.

“sure,” he replied confidently, took the ball, and started spinning. himself. as in, he turned around a few times on the spot.

    -_-;;;;

i am surrounded by crazy koreans. hahaha.
