  2. 설날

    February 8, 2008 by admin

my roomie soojeong has headed back to daejeon to celebrate the new year, so i arranged to meet yenwen yesterday for a small “cooking session” at my house, since we are both chinese and we both celebrate the lunar new year.

i met her at the station near my place, then we went off to some shops nearby to get some stuff before heading home. we tried looking for some veggies for stir-frying, but unfortunately the supermarket was closed, so we settled for some canned soup, bean sprouts, seaweed, canned fruits and eggs. total damage: about 13,000won (SGD21). we got ourselves some fresh fruits as well – apples, strawberries (OMG THEY’RE SO FABULICIOUSLY SWEET!!) and tangerines – some 10,000won (SGD16) worth. together with the toufu skin and 2 packets of taiwanese instant noodles that she had brought along, that’s quite a lot of food for 2 people!!

    now you don’t!

we were amazed that we actually managed to finish everything! and the taiwanese noodles were damn good! made me feel like making a trip to taiwan again… man, i miss taiwan. hehe.

after that we watched tv till about 10pm – some new year specials were on, followed by 미남들의 수다 (美男们的闲聊), the male version of the programme that yenwen is on. it’s not a regular programme though, unlike 미수다, and runs only on special holidays. (ps- julien kang is cute. muahaha.) it’s been a few months since i last watched tv, and i was surprised at how much i could follow. yay. ^^v

well, it turned out that we had no more room in our stomachs left for the fruits, so she brought some of it back with her.

    a few surprises today!

first, boss1 strode into the office at 2.30pm and announced cheerily that knock-off time is at 3! then as we were leaving the office, boss2 stood near the door and handed each of us a HUGE plastic bag and a gold-coloured envelope with the letters “LOTTE” embossed on the front, which contained a voucher for the lotte department store. i expected the value of the voucher to be 10,000won, at most 20,000won, but i was wrong.

what is this!!! this is like SGD80! it’s almost as much as what i receive from my parents! and it’s the most i’ve ever received from a non-relative (actually even some of my closer relatives don’t give that much).

1 year’s worth of toothpaste supply! hurhurhur

one thing about koreans is that though they may be quite materialistic, they’re pretty generous when it comes to sharing their stuff, and they do not think twice when spending money on their friends or family.

oh, and did i mention that it’s payday today?? :D

    마음이 되게 따뜻하다. ^^
