  1. japan – part 3

alright! on to the last batch of photos from my weekend in japan (there! i said it again! hoho)

we were walking randomly around, searching for a place to sit down and savour our cakes when we saw, in the distance, what seemed like a filming crew, and a group of people holding blue and white helium balloons.

out of curiosity, we went to take a closer look.

    img_3887.JPG

and it turned out that a wedding ceremony was being held! the bride and groom were standing under a bell, and after they had both said their stuff, the groom gave the cord of the bell a hard pull, the bell rang loudly once, and everyone released their balloons.

it was a beautiful sight. we were there at the perfect time, at the perfect place! :)

we then went over to a bench to sit down and have our cakes. :)

    cakes
sweet potato cake and a strawberry tart. yumyum.

after we finished our cakes, we went into this mall (aqua city?? anyway, it’s aqua-something) and i did some shopping. then we took the free shuttle bus to another mall, and did more shopping. heehee.

    godiva
and i bought my first godiva chocolate! hurhur. i always thought it was too expensive, but since i was on a holiday, i thought what the heck and bought a truffle, and treated shoko to a strawberry-covered chocolate too. :)

after i did all my shopping, we took the shuttle bus back to the 1st mall, and passed by some trees with pink blossoms. i’d asked shoko and sachiko the day before if the cherry blossoms had bloomed yet and they both replied that it was still early — they usually bloom around the end of march. so when i saw the trees, i asked shoko if they were plum blossoms, since they bloom before the cherry blossoms, and she replied that they might be.

so after we alighted from the bus, we walked over to take a closer look, and she said hey! i think they are sakuras! and i was like omg really?!?! and she pointed to a sign on the tree and replied yep they are sakuras!

this just totally reminded me of the time when i was in kending and i asked the bf hopefully if he thinks there might be a rainbow (it was drizzling, and the sun was shining brightly), and he replied “why not? there might be” before saying very casually “hey – there’s one just behind you.” and i turned and saw the biggest rainbow i ever saw in my life. :)

after i took my fill of pictures of the sakuras, we went into the mall in search of dinner! we had a hard time deciding what to eat, before finally settling for sizzler’s. ya i know – go japan eat sizzler’s – wtf right. but somehow i felt that shoko wanted to eat sizzler’s cos she mentioned it a few times, so what the hell, i treated her to dinner there. after all, it’s not so much the food as the company that matters, no? :)

shoko was telling me that on friday it was raining, but the weather was great — no, PERFECT — on sat and sun (the 2 days that i was there). and on monday morning it was drizzling when i left the hostel.

it’s a pity i STILL didn’t get to try japan’s mr donut (i’ve tried the ones in taipei and seoul). :( everyone tells me that it’s everywhere – even shoko and sachiko said that it’s all over tokyo – but somehow we just couldn’t seem to find it! hurhur. nevermind – there will be a next time!

  2. japan – part 2

i told shoko that i wanted to eat some nice cakes so the next day (sunday), we arranged to meet at ginza cos she said that one of her favourite bakeries is located in ginza.

while waiting for her, i took these shots:

    ginza1

    ginza2

    bakery
this is the bakery that she brought me to — i like the decor! very fairytale-ish. :)

we bought 2 cakes and wanted to eat it in the cafe, but the seating area was closed as they were preparing for white day so we packed it up and decided to eat it when we get to odaiba.

then we went for lunch at this japanese restaurant, with a sushi bar thingie, and i had sashimi with rice (i can’t remember the name of the dish though – i am very very bad with japanese names). very very nice!!! no photos though. hehe. and i realize that i didn’t eat any sushi while i was in japan! hurhur.

seat in the middle of an empty street
we walked out of the restaurant at about 12pm, to find the streets of ginza closed off to traffic. so there were these benches in the middle of the road, which i assume are for bored husbands/boyfriends to rest on while their lady partners go about their shopping. hehe. no shopping at ginza for me though! not when the shops are mainly big brand names like chanel, gucci, prada and stuff.

then we took the sky train / monorail to odaiba!

and i went trigger-happy on the way to odaiba:

  3. japan – part 1

so i walked out of the arrival hall to find sachiko waiting for me. :) it’s so nice to see her again! it’s only been, what, 3 months? but it felt like it’s been such a long time since we last met.

she then accompanied me to take the train to my hostel, which is located in asakusa.

after i put down my luggage, we went off in search for food — ramen, to be exact. the ramen that you find in restaurants here in korea are all instant noodles, and i’ve been wanting to eat non-instant japanese ramen since like forever.

so we found this ramen shop in some corner of asakusa, which turned out to be pretty crowded when we went in, so the food should at least be of some standard.

    the menu!
    sachiko with the menu!

    gyoza
    we ordered gyoza for starters,

    ramen!
    and ramen, of course,

    dessert
    and this was dessert!

    dessert was AMAZING. not so much the ice cream, but the drink that came with it. i have no idea what it’s called, but i find it so incredible that the drink can taste SO different when drinking it after eating the ice cream. i took a sip of the drink before i had the ice cream and didn’t think it was anything special — nice, maybe, with a unique taste, but nothing that would make me go wow. then i took another sip AFTER eating the ice cream and the taste just blew my mind. the drink was warm, refreshing, a little sour, and VERY VERY NICE. i would go back again just for that, if only i can remember where the shop is. -_-;;;

    img_3817.JPG
we walked to sensoji temple nearby, and i found it very familiar. then i realized that i’d been here in 2006 when my family came to japan with a tour group. it was all so familiar yet so strange, and it was nice to be able to walk around with no time limit.

    img_3821.JPG
i paid 100yen and went to shake one of those container thingies, and lot number 93 fell out of the container. this is what is said (bad grammar and all):

    No. 93 GOOD FORTUNE

If there is no water in pond, so many fish will die in it.
Throwing them into the water, they will get refreshed again.
As there is a barrier against your wish, good fortune does not seem to be smiling upon you yet.
Be patient, if you have a trouble and eventually everything will be all right.

    * Your wish will come true. * The sick person will take time in getting well. * The lost article will not be found. * The person you are waiting for will come late. * Building a new house and removal are not always good. * It is good to make a trip. * Both marriage and employment are good.

heh? too chim for me. to be honest, the only sentence that i really see is it is good to make a trip. hahahaha.

shoko could only meet us quite late at night because she had to attend a friend’s wedding. so me and sachiko headed off to a cafe for some drinks to chat and wait for shoko.

    coffee

after shoko arrived at about 10pm, we proceeded to the bar at my hostel as the cafes were all closed.

    shoko + sachiko
    i missed them. :)
