  1. i meant literally

    September 5, 2008 by admin

“She waited on tables as usual that day…”

while i was reading during lunch, boss2 came over and asked to look at my book.

i passed it to him, and asked him to try reading it. that was the first sentence of the page that i was at. then i asked him to try translating it into korean.

“그녀가 평소와 같이 책상 위에서 기다린다.” was what he came up with.

for those who don’t understand korean, he just did a literal translation. as in, “a girl was waiting (for someone or something) as usual on top of a table” kind of literal.

    heh heh.

  2. personality by blood type

    July 29, 2008 by admin

a few days ago, the best friend asked me:

    mari: let me guess
mari: you are blood type B or O
    mari: am i right?
    mari: hahaha

    me: hahaha why?
    me: i’m O
me: but my sis and dad are B
me: so i guess i also have B blood in me somewhere?

    mari: MUAHAHHAHAHA
    mari: it’s true it’s true!!
    mari: hahaahha

    me: what???

then she forwarded me this email. i think it’s true! i’m a blend of the B and O characters in the comic. heh heh. anyway the koreans believe that blood types are indicative somewhat of a person’s personality–something like how others believe in horoscopes. pictures under cut.

(i don’t get the “~peeeng” one though? the one where they’re eating? can someone explain??)

  3. the accidental protestor

    July 21, 2008 by admin

met lx for a movie on sat evening at the jongno area, and after the movie lx wanted to walk from jongno to city hall.

as we were walking we noticed a group of people gathered in the middle of the road, and there were vans and cameras scattered around, so we thought that some filming was going on. so after some moments of kaypoh-ing observation, we concluded that no, they were not filming and yes, they were demonstrating. again. regarding the US beef and the president.

the demonstrators were heading towards city hall, which was exactly where we were going, so we matched our pace with theirs and walked alongside them. as they walked they shouted something which to me sounded like, “ONE SHOT! TO DRINK! TWO SHOTS! HA HA!” which you know, didn’t really seem out of place even considering the circumstances if you think about the koreans’ love for alcohol. heh heh. along the way i even shouted with them just for fun (as in i mouthed my ONE SHOT chant and not the actual chant in korean, because i never managed to figure out what they were supposed to be shouting).

then they started chanting something else, which i managed to catch. “이명박은! 물러나라!” (lee myeong-bak! step down!) this, too, i shouted along at some point, just to re-live my experience in taipei where me and mari were “part of” the dao-bian protests. and no, the irony that i have protested against the incumbent presidents of both taiwan and korea but not singapore is not lost on me. hurhur.

i took some shots and videos with my handphone, which i stupidly left in lx’s house, so yeah maybe will upload them next week or something if i can figure out how to get them onto my comp.

anyway, some photos from the previous week when me, roy and lx met up with yenwen at hongdae and went to a really nice cafe (actually a lot of cafes in seoul are really nice, which is one thing i really love about seoul).

these were taken with roy’s dslr cam, and MAN i am SOO tempted to get one!!! -_-;; well maybe next time, when i have much more disposable income than i do now and no longer have to think of the opportunity costs in terms of air tickets. lots of photos of roy, because a) he was sitting opposite me, and b) he was a VERY willing model. heh.

    the pretty menu!

    ahh ghost!
