i’ve always had a soft spot for men (especially older men) with wei1 yan2.
i was watching the godfather part 2 in which a 30-years-younger robert de niro appeared. it’s all very surreal, watching de niro in his younger days; it’s like travelling back in time, trying to reconcile the de niro in all his wrinkly glory with that strapping (heh!) young man in the show. and to have your younger self being preserved on film (i.e. movies and photographs), i think it can be quite unsettling when you look back on it–it’s like so much time has passed, but not really; so many experiences in between, but not really; the person there you’re watching is still you, and although that person in the film may not be the present you, s/he is still a part of you, being a part of your past. maybe you’ve changed a lot since the picture was taken or the film was made. or maybe you haven’t changed at all. you never really have a point of reference unless you watch yourself, or see yourself, and sometimes even memories can be unreliable as they get distorted with time.
so anyway. enough rambling.
for as long as i can remember, i have been having a huge crush on said actor. i’ve always thought he was quirky and fun, on top of having wei yan, which is a really unusual combination but de niro somehow manages to pull it off. (the other actor with wei yan on whom i have a huge crush is ian mckellen, who to me is in the same league as de niro.)
when i first saw the young de niro in the show, i couldn’t recognize him! he actually looks quite dashing! and cute! (not that he doesn’t look cute now, but he is cute in a cute-old-man way.) hurhurhur.

see what i mean.

*ahem*

heh heh. looking somewhat more like his current self.
