serendipity
15 Apr 2010i will be moving on from Apple.
even now, i am still amazed by how everything seems to line up so perfectly.
i got this new job when i wasn’t even looking for one; a headhunter called me up some one or two months ago, saying that she had 2 positions which she thinks might suit me and the ball just started rolling from there. i rejected one of the positions (korean-speaking) and decided to focus my energies on the other.
the whole process took a loooong time, mainly because my boss (she’s my boss now because i signed the contract yesterday!!) was busy, but no matter, what matters is that i got it!!
i will be starting my first day of work in HK, and even this happened by chance.
i was planning for a trip to HK to visit lx before i started on my new job and i relayed this to my boss, and surprise surprise, she said that she would be in HK at the same time to meet up with her suppliers, and would i be interested to start work in HK, since it would be a good opportunity for me to get right into things?
of course i said yes!!!
i’ve always wanted a job that includes travel, and i certainly hope that starting my new job overseas would be a sign of things to come!
i guess i’ve always been blessed in that in my very short professional history, my managers and bosses have all been wonderful people. in the grand canyon, in korea, in apple and my new boss have all been / are all fun-loving, fair (important!!), supportive and just wonderful in general.
apple’s a good place to work at and a good company to work for, my manager is supportive and nice, but when i heard that ‘opportunities for travel’ was part of the job description, i didn’t have to think twice. travel’s my kryptonite, my achilles’ heel. i willingly happily gladly took a pay cut on account of those 3 words. (that, plus my work at apple was making me feel stagnant.)
and my feeling was spot on once again! i never felt that i would stay long at apple even though i had planned to sit out my contract, but look what happens and once again this is why i NEVER plan. at least, i never make any long-term plans. even my 1-year-stay-at-apple plan was smashed to smithereens in 5 months. never even made it to half-term.
i won’t get to use korean anymore, and my korean is likely to deteriorate, but no worries i have a back-up plan. noraebang more often please!!
(off-topic, but wednesdays have always been my lucky day. i noticed that lots of significant events in my life happens on wednesdays. i likey!)
